Mr. Somnath Mukherjee is a distinguished hospitality leader with over three decades of experience, having joined the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) in 1992 at the iconic Taj Bengal. Throughout his exemplary career, he has served in senior leadership roles at some of the most celebrated properties in the IHCL portfolio, including Umaid Bhawan Palace, Taj Ganges & Nadesar Palace, Rambagh Palace, Taj West End, and Taj Lands End. He went on to serve as Area Director – Karnataka before being elevated to Senior Vice President – Operations (West).
In his current role as Executive Vice President, Mr. Mukherjee oversees IHCL’s operations across the key markets of Maharashtra and Gujarat. He also heads the Corporate Food and Beverage division, working to drive innovation, excellence, and strategic alignment in the company’s culinary offerings. As a member of IHCL’s Executive Committee, he plays a vital role in guiding the organization’s operational and strategic direction.
An alumnus of the prestigious Advanced Management Program (AMP207) at Harvard Business School, Mr. Mukherjee brings a global perspective to hospitality leadership, combining strategic foresight with operational depth. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Piem Hotels Limited and is an elected member of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Western Region Council.
Mr. Mukherjee’s contributions to the hospitality industry have been widely recognized. He was named Best Hotelier at the Worldwide Hospitality Awards in Paris (2018) and received the Governor’s Award for Exceptional Service to Maharashtra in 2024. Additional honors include General Manager of the Year – Luxury Hotels by FHRAI, the BW Hotelier Indian Hospitality Awards (2017–18), the Hotelier India Awards (2012), and the Best Luxury Hotel award from the President of India in 2017.
